AUSLAN
Nashdale Public School is excited to introduce basic Auslan (Australian Sign Language) lessons as part of our Languages Other Than English (LOTE) subject. This exciting addition reflects our commitment to inclusivity, communication, and providing students with valuable, real-world skills. Through these lessons, students will develop an awareness of Auslan, learn simple signs and greetings, and gain an appreciation for the importance of accessible communication and inclusion within our community.
Our teachers are supported by the DoE Intinerant Hearing Support Team that provides ongoing professional development, high-quality resources, and expert guidance. This partnership ensures our staff to feel confident and equipped to deliver engaging, effective Auslan lessons.
Students can take part in special religious education (SRE) or special education in ethics (SEE) classes, depending on what’s available. These classes are delivered by approved providers.
When enrolling your child, you’ll be able to choose an option from the approved providers offered at our school. Students not attending SRE or SEE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities.
At our school, Christian SRE (Scripture) is provided in a Combined arrangement. SRE teachers come from different Christian denominations and churches. The approved providers in this combined arrangement are Baptist Churches NSW, Bathurst Anglican Diocese, Australian Christian Churches, Orange Evangelical Church, Presbyterian Church NSW, Uniting Church, Catholic Diocese of Bathurst, Emmanuel Baptist Church, and Christian Community Churches of Australia.
The Christian SRE curriculum used is authorised by the Orange District Ministers’ Association (ODMA). The curriculum is based on the good news about Jesus Christ and learning the key elements of Christian life and culture and can be found at https://cepconnect.com.au/curriculum.
Christian SRE engages students in conversations as they question life, explore values and discover faith.

Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly tell students what they are learning, why it is important and how to do it step by step. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts.
