High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent

Rich opportunities and activities

Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
Upon enrolment at Nashdale, every child has Personalised Learning Plan developed in consultation with the student, their parent/carers and teachers. Part of this Plan is the identification of potential and realised areas of high potential across the intellectual, physical, creative and socio-emotional domains.
Within each classroom students are enriched and extended in these areas through a rigorous, differentiated teaching and learning program in the first instance.
Our school operates common literacy and numeracy sessions across the school. This enables student's to access a differentiated curriculum both within their home class but also allows for acceleration as students progress through the grades if required.
Acceleration is considered in consultation with families and takes into account student's social development as well as ensuring that student's have demonstrated a secure knowledge of current stage based concepts and outcomes.
Our school counsellor is trained to administer assessments to help identify superior intellectual potential.
Nashdale proudly partners with Aurora College. Remote opportunity classes cater for academically gifted Year 5 and Year 6 students with high potential. These classes help students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level. Parents normally apply when students are in Year 4. Students who are placed then attend the opportunity class full time in Years 5 and 6 at the primary school. It is a two year placement program. Placement in the Aurora College Opportunity Class allows students to access a challenging academic program students to access a challenging academic program without the need to leave their local school.
